July Currently

Wowza! I may or may not be getting a little preoccupied with this blogging... Okay, I am preoccupied! But I am learning so much!

It's time to make a to do list for the rest of my summer. I don't think that July Goals are quite enough for me this time. Too much to do. Why is it that when I hit July I feel like the summer is already over, but that it just started!?!?

Anyway... I am linking up with Oh' Boy Fourth Grade for the Currently Linky party! Parties are so much fun! I love her "Rule of 3". Someday I would love to institute that. For a linky comment on the 2 links before you and the 1 that came after you, cause it's nice. And I agree. It's nice. :)

Here is my currently!

Listening: Yeah, I made some green beans... apparently I don't want to eat them because they have been beeping in the microwave this whole time that I have been trying to figure out how to the this Linky.

Loving: All this new blog stuff is so interesting. I can tell that I am going to have to set some limits on myself to keep from getting lost in the blogosphere. There is so much to learn!

Thinking: I can't wait to post a freebie to my brand new TpT store. But it has to be really good... right? Or am I just over-thinking this? I really want to work on some beginning of the year handouts. I need to update all of mine anyway, it's a goal!

Wanting: Green beans and a cup of coffee, eh, maybe not.

Needing: The kitchen. Oh man. I procrastinated working on my DIY project for too long. It sat and stared at me, until I felt so terrible that I have worked on it everyday for a week. Long story, but we are putting in butcher block countertops (per Pinterest, of course) and the sealant that is reported to work the best for this takes one coat every 24 hours, for 4-6 coats. That means seal the top and seal the bottom and you'll be working on just that for 8-12 days! Oh man. I have my last 3 coats to put on and I'll be done! YAY!

Tips, Tricks, or Hints: Google is my new best friend. I mean we were already pretty close buddies, but now... now we are inseparable. I'm so glad there are so many bloggers out there willing to share their knowledge. Man, people rock!

Thanks for dropping by! Leave me a comment, I love making new friends! Now that I've told you all about my currently, it's back to the July Goals!

July Goals Linky!

I am linking up with I {heart} Recess for a July Goals Linky! This is my first Linky... I hope I am doing it right.

Wow, starting a blog is like a full time job! I now know why I never tried to start this during the school year!

Personal: I am working right now on a DIY kitchen remodel. It was started in the midst of the school year ending, so... bad timing. After a vacation, and other set backs, I am now on it! I am working on a Pinterest project (of course) to put in butcher block countertops. It is finally coming along. Tile will be next!

Family: How am I out of school and feel like I am running around just as much as before? We need a weekend away. I'm thinking a camping adventure is in order soon.

Health: Yuck, my running took such a set back this past April when I injured my knee. I was training for my very first half marathon, and 3 weeks out, BAM! Injury. Darn. Well, after weeks and weeks of physical therapy I am finally putting on the the running shoes again and getting out there. It is a little frustrating to be starting back at 1 mile, after having been up to 11 miles. It's alright though! One step at a time. I have that 13.1 sticker hanging in my mirror to keep me focused!

School: I started this blog partly because of reading along with Freebie-licious's summer book study. They are reading "The Next Step in Guided Reading". Reading up more on being a more effective reading teacher is always a goal of mine. I feel like teaching this in Kindergarten is such a challenge, but I am sure all teachers feel that way about reading, right? I love reading, I hope I can inspire my students to love it too!

Blog/ TPT: Yeah, finish getting this all together. I am not sure I have the hang of it yet, but with all the time I am dedicating to it, I know I will figure it out! The TPT part is still a bit of a mystery to me. I have made resources for myself for years. It's time to figure out how to share the wealth!

Outside the Box: This one may sound a bit crazy, but I just recently refinished a dresser for myself and I loved the whole process! Inspired by Pinterest of course, I am on a mission to find affordable wooden furniture to zen into refinishing. Some tunes on my headphones and sandpaper in my hand, love it!

Meet the Teacher Monday!

I talked and thought about it forever, after years of stalking many of my favorite teacher bloggers, I have finally made the plunge!

My name is Sarilyn and I am a blogger.

That's me and my wonderful papa. We are BIG Detroit Tiger's baseball fans. The only thing that takes up more time in my life than teaching, family and friends is baseball.

I am a 32 year old (yikes!) wife and puppy mama. My dear hubby and I have been married for almost 7 years, but I always say that I want credit for the 10 we were together before we got married. Yep, do that math... I'll give you a second.... the answer is 15. I was 15 when we were started dating, lol... I always say, I found a good one early and couldn't let him go! He is my high school sweetheart for sure!

My puppy is 4 years old. So, yeah, he's not a puppy. He is my hubby's hunting partner and my running buddy. His name is Gus. Well, it's actually "Argus Floppy Squigglebottoms the 1st". I'm not kidding. I put it on his AKC registration. :)

I love teaching AND learning. I teach kindergarten and have for the past 4 years. Before that I worked with third through fifth graders as an intervention tutor. But my kinders are my heart. I adore their spirit, their love, their zest for learning. They aren't jaded yet, I can get them excited about anything. I mean ANYTHING!

"Guess what? We are going to clean tables today!!!"
"YAY!!!""

Often in my classroom you may hear us cheering loudly about any number of things that I want to ensure their excitement for, "YAY MATH!!!" (That one is my favorite.)

The one thing I can't live without in my classroom? Technology. I know this is true as my Smartboard took a nosedive at the end of the school year. It was painful. Smartboards, iPod touches, iPads, computer labs... I really want to explore more project based learning this year, using technology. I have seen so many neat ideas that I have been waiting to PIN and try.

Yeah, I am a Pinterest addict, as well. Check it out! (The link is on the right.) I apologize ahead of time, there is quite a bit on there, but I try and keep it organized at least. It has been getting away from me a little this summer though...

So that is me. I hope to use this to share what we are doing in the classroom, materials that I have created or found, and my overall love of teaching. Feel free to introduce yourself, I'm always happy to make new friends!
